Although UNISTELLAR telescopes are primarily designed for nighttime observation, they can also be used to observe sunrise and sunset, provided that specific safety guidelines are followed.

The characteristic colors of these moments (reds, oranges, and golds) are clearly visible through the telescope optics, offering a unique and visually pleasing experience.

Mandatory Use of the Smart Solar Filter

⚠️ For any solar observation, including when the Sun is low on the horizon, it is mandatory to use the Smart Solar Filter.
Observing the Sun without an appropriate filter, even at sunrise or sunset, can seriously damage the telescope’s sensor and pose a risk to the user.

The Smart Solar Filter is designed to drastically reduce light intensity and allow safe solar observation while preserving visible surface details.

👉 For more information on how it works and how to install it, see the dedicated article:
UNISTELLAR Smart Solar Filter

Compatibility

There are two models of the Smart Solar Filter, depending on your telescope:

  • EXPERT Model: compatible with eVscope, eVscope 2, eQuinox, eQuinox 2

  • ODYSSEY Model: compatible with Odyssey and Odyssey Pro

Observation Tips

  • Choose a location with a clear horizon, facing east for sunrise or west for sunset.

  • Wait until the Sun is right at the horizon before starting observation.

  • Install the Smart Solar Filter before powering on the telescope.

  • Use the GoTo Sun feature in the app to help with alignment.

  • Avoid image stacking for this type of observation — it is mainly intended for live viewing or occasional photo capture.
