If your UNISTELLAR app displays the screen below with “???” instead of the telescope status, it means the app cannot communicate with the telescope. This is usually due to a Wi‑Fi connection or device settings. Here's how to fix it.
1. Connect to the telescope
First, if you see those question marks, enable Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi on your smartphone or tablet.
Then open the UNISTELLAR app. If the telescope is powered on and nearby, it should appear in the list of detected instruments. Select it to connect.
If the connection fails, you can try connecting manually via your device's Wi‑Fi settings:
1. Manually connect to the telescope
Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone or tablet, then manually connect to the telescope via Bluetooth.
Then connect to the Wi‑Fi network created by the telescope:
- Go to your device’s Wi‑Fi settings.
- Look for a network named
eVscope-XXXX
orOdyssey-XXXX
. - Connect to it. No password is required (unless you set one yourself).
- Return to the UNISTELLAR app.
If your device remains connected to the Internet (via 4G/5G or another Wi‑Fi network), this may cause a conflict. In that case:
- Temporarily disable mobile data.
- Disable any active VPN.
2. Restart or reset the telescope
A simple restart may be enough to fix the issue:
- Press the ON/OFF button once to turn off the telescope (hold for 2 seconds), then press it again to turn it back on.
- Wait for the LED to turn on and remain solid (blue or red).
If that doesn’t work, you can also reset the Wi‑Fi module:
-
Quickly press the ON/OFF button 10 times, as shown in the demonstration below.
- The LED will blink purple then blue : the Wi‑Fi reset was successful.
3. Understand the LED color
The telescope's LED color provides key information:
- Blue or red (solid): The telescope is on and ready to connect.
- Purple (solid): The telescope’s onboard software is booting up or shutting down.
- Purple blinking 5 times: The telescope is off and doesn’t have enough charge to start. Please recharge it.
- White: internal error. Contact support with a photo of the LED.
4. Grant all required app permissions
The UNISTELLAR app needs certain permissions to work properly. Make sure the following are enabled:
- Location access
- Local network access (on iOS, this is requested on first launch)
- Network permissions (on Android)
If you're not sure you've granted everything, you can uninstall and reinstall the app to reset permissions.
5. Avoid interference and obstacles
The telescope emits a local Wi‑Fi network with a range of about 10 meters. To maintain a stable connection:
- Stay close to the telescope.
- Avoid thick walls, glass panes, metal partitions, or electromagnetic interference.
- Disconnect from other Wi‑Fi networks.
6. If the issue persists…
Contact our support team and provide the following:
- Your telescope model
- The LED color (with a photo)
- Your smartphone or tablet model, and the operating system (iOS/Android)
- The steps you’ve already tried
Our team will get back to you as soon as possible.
