Yes, it is real, we do NOT make any overlay of any preexisting images. The image is formed from photons being collected at the time you are observing, in real time. You are doing astronomy, not watching a movie, seeing what is happening at the moment in the dark sky.
If a plane, a shooting star, or something else passes while you observe, you will see its trace on the sensor and in the eyepiece if you are using an eVscope 2. We have a few examples like this on our Facebook page. This is also why you can make useful contributions to science on transient events.
By the way, the video from the eVscope is streamed live to the phone in real time as well.
