Yes, it is real, we do NOT make any overlay of any preexisting images. The image is formed from photons being collected at the time you are observing, in real time. You are doing astronomy, not watching a movie; you are seeing what is happening at the moment in the dark sky.
If a plane, a shooting star, or something else passes while you observe, you will see its trace on the sensor and in the eyepiece if you are using an eVscope 2 or the Osyssey Pro. We have a few examples like this on our Facebook page or in the Community Group. This is also why you can make useful contributions to science on transient events.
The video from our telescopes is also streamed live to the phone or tablet in real time—we call this "Live View."
