Troubleshooting Wi‑Fi Connection Issues Between the App and the Telescope

Follow

In case of a lost connection between the UNISTELLAR app and your telescope, some information may no longer appear (such as “???instead of the telescope status), or the connection may fail completely. These issues are often related to your device’s settings or Wi‑Fi interference. This comprehensive guide explains how to establish or restore the connection, step by step, and what to do if that doesn’t work.

1. Connect to the telescope

a. Automatic connection (recommended)

  1. Enable Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Turn on the telescope. The LED should be blue or red and steady.
  3. Open the UNISTELLAR app (make sure it is up to date).
  4. If the telescope is nearby, it will automatically appear in the list of detected instruments.
  5. Select it to connect.

b. Manual connection (if detection fails)

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your device.
  2. Go to your Wi‑Fi settings.
  3. Manually connect to the network named eVscope-XXXX or Odyssey-XXXX (no password, unless you’ve set one).
  4. Return to the app.

Important:

  • Temporarily disable your mobile data (4G/5G) to avoid any conflict.
  • Disable any active VPN.

2. Grant the app the required permissions

The app needs several permissions to function properly:

  • Access to location.
  • Access to the local network (on iOS).
  • Network permissions (on Android).

If unsure, uninstall then reinstall the app to request them again.

3. Understand the LED color

LED Color Meaning
Blue or Red (steady) Telescope ready to connect
Purple (steady) Firmware is starting up or shutting down
Purple (blinks 5 times) Battery too low to start
White Internal error → contact support

4. Restart or reset the telescope

a. Simple restart

  • Press and hold the ON/OFF button for 2 seconds to turn off the instrument.
  • Press it again to turn it back on.
  • Wait until the LED is steady (blue or red).

b. Reset the Wi‑Fi module

  • Press the ON/OFF button 10 times quickly (10x 0.5 sec).
  • The LED will blink purple: the reset was successful.

5. Optimize your connection environment

The telescope creates a local Wi‑Fi network with a range of about 10 meters. For a stable connection:

  • Stay within 10 meters of the telescope.
  • Avoid thick walls, glass panels, or electromagnetic interference.
  • Disable or forget your home Wi‑Fi network if your device tries to reconnect to it automatically.
  • Do not use other apps simultaneously (messaging, social media, etc.).
  • Avoid signal-crowded environments (prefer an open area like a garden or field).

6. If the issue persists…

Contact our support team and provide the following details:

  • Telescope model
  • LED color (with a photo)
  • Your smartphone or tablet model + operating system (iOS/Android) and update version.
  • Your telescope’s serial number
  • Steps already attempted

Our team will get back to you as soon as possible.
