How to Update the UNISTELLAR App?

Follow

To update the app, check for the latest updates in the App Store or on Google Play.

Once the app update is complete, start up your telescope. This will automatically trigger a software update for your device (if a firmware update is available), which will take about 15 to 30 seconds. We share our software updates here.

Detailed steps:

1) Turn on your telescope (press the LED button).

2) Connect to Wi-Fi or

3) Launch the app

4) Launch the update (it will ask you to):

If you do not install the firmware update, the yellow circles around the Observation and Instrument buttons will remain.

Keep your telescope on during that time and stay close by. Please isolate it from other Wi-Fi devices, as these can cause interference. Depending on your settings, the LED will turn purple, then blue or red. If it does not work within 3–5 minutes, abort the process and restart the app. You can also restart your phone and telescope. You may also try using a different phone.

Important: It is normal to lose your connection to the telescope during this process, as the unit is being fully rebooted and the Wi-Fi connection is being cut off. It will then restart automatically. You can reconnect by closing the app; you will then be able to see the new software version in the User tab.

Note: You'll need an internet connection to update your app. If you have planned an observation at a remote site, make sure you update your app beforehand.

Enjoy your observation!

*Occasionally, apps don’t respond as quickly as they should. When this happens, a useful strategy is to 'kill' the app and restart it. This is easy to do, though the method depends on the type of device you use. For iOS, for example:

What if it still doesn't work? Try following these steps on another device.

1. Turn on your telescope

2. Uninstall and reinstall the app

3. Press the 'Update' button

4. If the update circle is still running and the LED is red or blue, you can turn the telescope off by pressing the button

5. Turn the telescope on

6. Press the 'Update' button again
