How to Update the UNISTELLAR App?

Follow

You can do it by finding recent updates in the App Store if you have an iPhone or Google Play if you use an Android smartphone. Once your App update is completed, get your telescope up and running. This will trigger your unit's software update automatically (if there is any firmware change) and will take approximately 15–30 seconds. The App version can be seen in the Store as well, and we share our software updates here.

Detailed steps:

1) Start your eVscope (LED button ON, red or blue)
2) Get connected (Wi-Fi) or
3) Launch your App
4) Launch the update (it will ask you to):

Keep your telescope scope ON during that time and stay close. Please isolate it from other Wi-Fi devices, as they can interfere. The LED will go purple then back to blue or red, depending on your settings. If it does not work within 3–5 minutes, abort it and restart your App. You can also restart your phone and eVscope. You may want to try using another phone as well.

Important: It is normal to lose your connection with the eVscope during the process, as the unit is being completely rebooted and the Wi-Fi is being cut off. It's then restarted automatically. You can reconnect again by killing* the App; you'll be able to see the new software version in the User tab.

Note: You'll need an Internet connection to update your app. If you planned an observation at a remote site, make sure you updated your app beforehand.

Now you are done. Enjoy your observation!

* Occasionally, Apps don’t respond as quickly as they should. When this happens, one useful strategy is to try "killing" the app and restarting it. This is easy to do, though the method does depend on the type of device you use. For iOS, for example:

  • Double-tap the Home button if there is any
  • Drag the App up to the top of the screen
  • Restart the App

And if it still doesn't work? You can try with another device while you follow those steps.

1. Turn ON your telescope
2. (Again) Uninstall then reinstall the App
3. Push the "update" button
4. If the update circle is still running, and the LED is still red or blue, you can turn off the eVscope by pressing the button.
5. Turn ON the eVscope
6. Push the "update" button again
