How to Observe a Comet?

Follow

To observe a comet, type its name directly into the search bar on the home or catalog page. You can also use the catalog filters to view all currently available comets.

You can also enter its RA/Dec coordinates.

  • From the search bar or the catalog

Type in the comet's name, tap it, then tap Goto.

  • From the catalog using the filters

Go to the catalog , then tap the Filters button to display the catalog filters. Tap Celestial (to display sky-related objects), then use the selection options to display only comets.

Next, tap your comet in the list, then tap Goto.

Comets move relatively quickly across the sky. Therefore, there’s no need to observe for a long period of time. A few minutes are enough to capture a sharp image.

If you observe it for too long, the comet may appear elongated.

Because of this movement, the comet may drift out of view over time. Be sure to restart the tracking by tapping Goto to realign it if necessary.

When a new comet becomes visible, tips and advice are shared on the UNISTELLAR Facebook Community. Feel free to check it out to benefit from other users’ feedback and optimize your observations.
